If you've been online for a while with your ecommerce business, you know that sales rise and fall but if there becomes a time when you can look at your web stats and see that people are indeed coming to your site but they are not buying your products, the reason could be your website is stale.

The website design that looked hot 3 years ago will look old and tired this many years later. Even the big sites such as MSN, Amazon and Yahoo redesign their websites while keeping them simple and easy to navigate.

Your web stats can tell you a lot about your potential customers and why they are not buying. Look at your stats and go the "entry page". This is the page on your web site that people arrive on. Normally, it is accessed through search engine return results. Go to that page, what did they see? Are there broken links, bad shopping cart coding, page doesn't load quickly or not at all. There are a number of reasons this could be occurring. Look through other entry pages and see if there is a pattern.

You may need to reconsider a little website redesign. Freshen up your site with new product photographs, more detailed descriptions. Add a sale page and if you're actively promoting your website, add a blog page, news page or a page for press releases. People will flock to these pages to find out more about your company and more importantly, frequent updating of your website will insure that the search engines index your website with greater relevance.
