Your results for e-commerce terms begining with "I"

» Iframe (aka Inline Frame)
Unlike their cousins, traditional HTML Frames, IFrame is a dexterous, easy to use "floating" frame that can be placed almost anywhere on a webpage to "open a window" to another file "under" the main page. If you can imagine looking out your office window and seeing a billboard, then your office window is the iFrame (which stands for "inline frame" as in "in line with the structure of the wall") and the billboard (and its contents) are the iFrame's target file (billboard.html for an online example). Iframes are a great way to have an easily updateble section on any website or web page because you can place the iFrame on each page of the site and update the content site wide by only having to edit the one target file, from our example above, billboard.html.

» Image Map(s)
Image maps are invisible spots on a webpage image that are clickable. To create an image map, a website developer first places an image on the web page and then creates invisible spots called hot spots (hot spots can be circles, squares or rectangles, or custom shapes). Each hot spot has a corresponding URL assigned to it. When the webpage user "mouses over" a hot spot on an image, the browser checks the image map (which is actually just a block of code on the page containing coordinates for each hotspot location their URL's) and if the user clicks on the hot spot, the browser goes the proper URL just like a regular hyperlink. Most WYSIWYG editors like Dreamweaver & Frontpage can create image maps, and there are other stand alone freeware packages that can create image maps and hot spots as well. Try running a search for "image map creator" to find a listing of small solutions for creating image maps.

» Inktomi
Inktomi, owned by Yahoo!, is a massive database of websites used other major search engines. Inktomi is also a search engine.

» IP Address (aka Internet Protocol Address)
In very simple terms, an IP address is similar to a phone number in the "real world". IP Addresses can be assigned to websites, computers, and host of other hardware components. IP Addresses enable the Internet to work, but ironically, when the Internet was developed, it's popularity was underestimated. There is a finite number of IP Addresses, hence the widespread use of virtual IP addresses. Static or Dedicated IPs (sometimes called unique IPs although they are not always the same thing) are harder to come by and usually require an extra fee (in the case of websites). There also exists a fierce debate on whether or not websites with dedicated, unique IPs perform better in the search engines than sites on virtual IPs. Further more, some IPs carry a bad history with them so be sure if you are utilizing a dedicated IP, it doesn't have a shady past. IP Example: 158.24.93.### (this is an example only, the # signs would be numbers as well in a real IP address.)
